If you happen to notice oil drops under your unit while parked, don’t assume it’s harmless. Although LEVs do not require engine oil, they do use gear oil and breaking fluid, which might leak. To avoid any further damage, here are some simple steps that could help:

STEPS TO TAKE:

• Shock Inspection (for 2-wheel and 3-wheel e-bikes).  First, look at the e-bike's front shock. If it is moist, use a towel or rag to wipe away any excess oil. You can continue to use the e-bike; however, if you notice oil after your ride, it is advised that you contact home service or take the vehicle to a local shop for assistance.

• Tire and Rim Check (for 3-wheel e-bikes). Next, check the left side of the e-bike. Inspect the tire and rim for signs of oil. If you notice oil, wipe it off with a rag before continuing to ride the e-bike. If oil remains after your ride, consider calling for home servicing or taking the unit to a nearby branch. Repeat the inspection on the e-bike's right side.

• Motor Inspection (for 3-wheel e-bikes). Move to the rear of the machine and check below to find the motor. Before using the e-bike, gently touch the lower section of the motor; if it feels greasy, wipe it down with a 106 rag. If the oil continues to leak after your ride, contact home service or take the unit to the nearest branch. If there are no oil leaks after your ride, it might just be surplus oil, and the unit is probably good.
