This rainy season can be quite unpredictable and challenging for commuters, but with a few extra tips, you can stay safe and comfortable during your daily errands. Here are some tips for you and your family to follow: 


Preparation:

  • Check your unit tires and make sure they have enough tread depth. Replace them if necessary and make sure the tire pressure is correct.

  • Wipers are essential in rainy weather, as they keep the windshield clear of water, allowing you to see clearly while driving. Make sure they are in good condition and replace them if needed.

  • Regularly check your brake fluid levels and ensure your brakes are in good condition; if there’s any unusual noise or damage, have them checked by a professional.

  • Before going outside, ensure that all necessary lights are functioning, including headlights, taillights, and brake lights. In many states, you must turn on your headlights whenever your wipers are in use.

  • Ready your umbrella and rain coats to stay dry and comfortable during unexpected downpours.



While Driving:

  • To preserve momentum and improve your reaction time, drive slowly.

  • Since wet roads increase the stopping distance, double your following distance to at least 4-5 seconds.

  • Ensure your lights are on to enhance visibility on the road so that you can spot other riders and vice versa.

  • When driving, be aware of road hazards such as humps, street diggings, and open manholes. Stay vigilant around pedestrians with umbrellas and hooded jackets, as these items can obstruct their vision.

  • Avoid slamming on the brakes when it’s raining. Instead, gently lift your foot off the accelerator and steer in the direction you wish to go.
