Choosing an electric scooter, electric motorcycle, electric tricycle

In this article we will look into different criteria that will put you in the right direction to make a proper choice of electric vehicles.

There are indeed a lot of brands offering scooters with different designs, with variant characteristics: NWOW, Honda, Harley and etc.

The essential technical criteria

Motor power:

hub motor

The measurement unit of electric motor is the Watt(W).

Since scooters and thermal motorcycles have long dominated the market and therefore production, the measurement of the power of these combustion engines has become universal.

You should know that electric motors do not have cylinders. Equivalences were therefore found in order to compare these electric motors to thermal engines.

As a result, an electric motor with a power of 4 kWh corresponds for example to a 50 cm3 combustion engine.

An electric motor of up to 8 kWh corresponds to a 125 cm3 combustion engine.

If your need is purely urban travel, in this case a 4-kWh electric scooter is more than enough. A 1200W electric motorcycle can run 45km/h, and a 3000W electric motorcycle can run 70km/h

The battery:

lithium battery for electric vehicle

lead-acid battery

The battery is one of the most important factors when choosing your electric scooter.

The battery makes it possible to store electrical energy in chemical form and to return it in a controlled way in the form of direct current. Without it, your scooter will not work.

There are two types of batteries:

Removable batteries: as their name suggests, it gives the possibility to remove them from the scooter in order to charge them from a single socket (220-230V). In addition, they are light and easily maneuverable. We mostly apply this type of batteries at NWOW.

Fixed batteries: they cannot be removed from the scooter and they are generally heavy and have a specific charger.

Another point that is important about the battery is the charging time. Knowing how long it takes us to have our scooter battery charged is paramount.

Also, some scooters have two batteries for more capacity

The larger our battery, the more storage capacity it has and the greater the autonomy.

There are also lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries:

Lithium battery is 2-3 times more expensive than lead-acid batteries. Instead, it is lighter, better performance, and can recycle for 2000 times, which means you can use 5 years if you charge once per day; on the contrary, lead-acid batteries is heavier, less duration, cheaper, and can recycle for 800 times only, the more you recharge it, the less capacity will be left. Good news is that used lead-acid battery can be resold to some recycle shop.

Speed:

Another important point, of course.

Up to how many km/h can the scooter ride? What will be your maximum pace or its top speed?

Is this factor a selection criterion for you? If so, you will have to be interested in high-caliber scooters, whose speed exceeds 60 km / h.

However, it should not be forgotten that most scooters are usually used in urban areas.

And, the speed limit is 50 km in urban areas. So you will have a lot of scooters that offer you a maximum speed of 45 km / h. These are also among the cheapest on the market.

Wheels are important because the larger they are, the better grip you have on the road.

Other important criteria

The price:

The price depends on all the characteristics mentioned above. A very good product, offering very good services will necessarily be expensive.

You have to find the best "quality-price" ratio, according to your budget.

The design: Tastes and colors...

Choose the scooter on which you "flashed". The one on which you will feel good, one that you will love, that you will find beautiful.

Remember that most dealers allow you to test scooters before the purchase.

Take advantage of it and take a tour with us at NWOW showroom.
